Washing Day on The Ganges

Any vague hint of sun on the Ganges brings forth a monumental change in the landscape of Varanassi; throngs of men and women scrubbing, dipping and dashing clothes on the stone ghats, and swathes of drying linen and clothes carpeting the banks. Although, how effective the process is when you see the colour of the water, and the mass of waste, rubbish, petrol, and even human bodies that are thrown and plunged into it, is questionable.
